Helicobacter Pylori Antibody has been discontinued due to

1. Poor predictive value

2. Inability to distinguish active from past infections

3. Poor performance

If you get a request for this test, please let the ordering provider know that the testing is no longer available.

Please offer the following alternative tests:

1. Helicobacter Pylori Antigen, feces - Meds do not interfere with

   this test. See the catalog for specimen requirements.

2. Helicobacter Pylori Breath Test - on patients >3 years of age.

   The patient must not have eaten within an hour of having the test

   performed AND they must be off meds like prilosec, Prevaid, Nexium,

   Pepto-Bismol for 2 weeks. If the patient cannot be off the medication 

   for 2 weeks, the doctor can order Helicobacter Pylori Antigen, feces

   (HPA).
