If follicle-stimulating hormone is also requested, order Luteinizing Hormone (LH) and Follicle-Stimulating Hormone (FSH), Plasma or Serum (LHFSH) to order both FSH and LH tests.

Specimen Requirements
Submit only 1 of the following specimens:
Plasma
Draw blood in a green-top (lithium heparin) tube. Spin down and send 2 mL of lithium heparin plasma.
Note: 1. Indicate plasma.
2. Label specimen appropriately (plasma).
Serum
Draw blood in a gold-top serum gel tube. Spin down and send 2 mL of serum.
Note: 1. Indicate serum.
2. Label specimen appropriately (serum).
Reference Values
Males: 1.24-8.62 mIU/mL
Non pregnant females
Midfollicular phase: 2.12-10.89 mIU/mL
Midcycle peak: 19.18-103.03 mIU/mL
Midluteal phase: 1.20-12.86 mIU/mL
Postmenopausal: 10.87-58.64 mIU/mL
