Test Code LAB829 Iron and TIBC (Includes Transferrin)

Important Note

This test is also known as an Iron Panel or Iron Profile.

This panel includes % Saturation, which is also known as % Iron Saturation or Transferrin Saturation.

Do not order this panel with Iron (LAB94), as Iron is already included in this panel.

Do not order this panel with Transferrin (LAB133), as Transferrin is already included in this panel.

This panel does not include Ferritin (LAB68).

Additional Codes

Performing Laboratory

TidalHealth Peninsula Regional - Core Laboratory: Chemistry

Specimen Requirements

Submit only 1 of the following specimens:

Plasma
Draw blood in a green-top (lithium heparin) tube. (Hemolyzed specimen is not acceptable.) Spin down and send 2 mL of lithium heparin plasma.

Note: 1. Indicate serum.

2. Label specimen appropriately (serum).

3. It is not recommended to do iron testing on day of dialysis.

4. If a transfusion is planned, specimen for iron should be collected before transfusion, or several days afterwards.
