Test Code LAB735 Immunoglobulin Free Light Chains, Serum Kappa/Lambda
Additional Codes
Mayo test code: FLCP
CPT Code: 83883 x 2
Useful For
Monitoring patients with monoclonal light chain diseases but no M-spike on protein electrophoresis.
Performing Laboratory and Testing Schedule
TidalHealth Peninsula Regional - Special Chemistry
Testing is performed on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
Specimens collected on those days must arrive by 1200 to be tested that day.
Schedule is subject to change based on holidays, instrumentation issues, and reagent availability.
Specimen Requirements
Draw blood in a red and black tiger-top serum gel tube. (Hemolyzed, lipemic, icteric, and/or turbid specimen is not acceptable.) Centrifuge and send 1 mL of serum refrigerated at 2 - 8° C in original vacutainer.
Reference Values

0.33 - 1.94 mg/dL
LAMBDA-FREE LIGHT CHAINS
0.57 - 2.63 mg/dL
KAPPA/LAMBDA FLC RATIO
0.26 - 1.65
Day(s) Test Set Up
Monday, Wednesday, Friday
Methodology
Testing performed by Binding Site Optilite method. The concentration of serum free light chains in specimens determined with assays from different manufacturers can vary due to differences in assay methods and reagent specificity. Values obtained with different assay methods cannot be used interchangeably. If, while monitoring a patient, the assay method is changed, additional sequential testing should be carried out to confirm baseline values.
