Important Note

Lactoferrin testing is appropriate for adults, and babies who are not breast fed.

Fecal Lactoferrin testing should not be performed on babies </= 18 months old who are breastfed.

When a Lactoferrin is ordered on a baby that is </= 18 months and breast fed, Micro must "Add Stool Smear" via Result Entry (which orders Fecal Leukocytes LAB265) and cancel the Lactoferrin order, then provide the sample to the Core Lab.
