The 25-OH Vitamin D immunoassay reports the total concentration of 25-OH Vitamin D, the D2 and D3 fractions together, not separately.

Specimen Requirements

Plasma - Preferred Specimen

Draw blood in a green-top (lithium heparin) tube. Spin down and send 1 mL of lithium heparin plasma. REJECT SPECIMENS WITH GROSS HEMOLYSIS! If not tested immediately, seperate plasma. If not tested within 72 hrs, refrigerate sample. If not tested within 7 days, freeze sample.
Note:  Label specimen appropriately (plasma).

 

Acceptable but not Preferred Specimen

Serum
Draw blood in a gold-top serum gel tube. Spin down and send 1 mL of serum. REJECT SPECIMENS WITH GROSS HEMOLYSIS! If not tested immediately, seperate serum from cells. If not tested within 72 hrs, refrigerate sample. If not tested with 7 days, freeze sample.

Note:  Label specimen appropriately (serum).

Reference Values

<20.0 ng/mL = Deficient

20.0 – 29.9 ng/mL = Insufficient

30.0 – 100.0 ng/mL = Sufficient

>100.0 ng/mL = Upper Safety Limit
