Test Code LAB4369 TEG 6S Platelet Mapping ADP + AA
Additional Codes
CPT Codes per Test: 85576, 85576-91
Specimen Required
To ensure accurate results, draw a discard tube first. Use a no-additive tube or a citrate tube marked “discard.” Using a plain serum tube for the discard draw is not recommended as these can contain clot activators.
Use only non-gel heparin (dark green) tubes.
After collection, gently invert the tube 5 times to mix.
No additives or preservatives are necessary to maintain the integrity of the sample, but samples must be used after a 30-minute incubation and within 2 hours of draw.

Coagulation Testing and Therapeutic Anticoagulant Recommendations
The TEG 6s System is indicated for use with adult patients where monitoring of their blood hemostasis properties is desired. Hemostasis evaluation with the TEG 6s System is commonly used to assess clinical conditions in cardiovascular surgery and cardiology procedures to assess hemorrhage or thrombosis conditions. This assay specifically determines the MA (Maximum Amplitude, a measure of clot strength) and the reduction in MA due to clinical conditions/situations such as genetics, antiplatelet therapy, or surgical procedures, and reports it as percentage aggregation or percentage inhibition.
The manufacturer’s Clinical Performance summary table is available in the method procedure online in PolicyStat, and may be referred to by the provider to consider if this test selection is proper and comparable to known methods/instruments available in-lab or at our reference laboratory.
The manufacturer’s Method Limitations below may be referred to by the provider to determine if interferences or other limitations may affect the utility of this viscoelastic method.
HKH assay was tested for interference factors according to CLSI EP7-A2. Potential interfering factors tested were Absence of a Discard Tube, Short Draw, Hemolysis, Hemodilution, epsilon aminocaproic acid (EACA), Lipids (triglycerides), and Alcohol. Results show that only Hemolysis and Hemodilution levels above 40% were found to be interfering factors.
ActF assay was tested for interference factors according to CLSI EP7-A2. Potential interfering factors tested were Short Draw, Hemodilution, Lipids (triglycerides), and Alcohol. None were found to be interfering factors.
ADP assay was tested for interference factors according to CLSI EP7-A2. Potential interfering factors tested were Short Draw, Hemolysis, Hemodilution, Lipids (triglycerides), and Alcohol. Results show that only Short Draws of 2.5 mL or less into a 4.0 mL tube, Hemodilution at levels above 40%, and Alcohol ≥160 mg/dL are interfering factors.
AA assay was tested for interference factors according to CLSI EP7-A2. Potential interfering factors tested were Short Draw, Hemolysis, Hemodilution, Lipids (triglycerides), and Alcohol. Results show that Short Draws of 2.5 mL or less into a 4.0 mL tube and Hemolysis are interfering factors.
