Test Code LAB4001 Candida vaginitis / Trichomonas vaginalis
Methodology
This test is used to detect the presence of Candida glabrata and Candida species RNA to aid in the diagnosis of vulvovaginal candidiasis in symptomatic women. Also used in the diagnosis of Trichomonas vaginalis infections.
Performing Laboratory and Testing Schedule

Testing is performed Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday
Specimens collected on those days must arrive by 10pm to be tested that day.
Schedule is subject to change based on holidays, instrumentation issues, and reagent availability.
Specimen Requirements
Vaginal
Collect specimen as follows:
1. Aptima Vaginal Swab Specimen Collection Kit that has an orange label.
2. Please collect specimen with orange swab.
3. Instructions for collection of specimen are printed on package.
4. Label tube with patient's name (first and last), date of birth, date and time of collection type of specimen, and collector’s initials. Note: Specimen source is required.
5. Testing for Chlamydia trachomatis, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, and Bacterial Vaginosis can also be performed on same specimen.
6. Unacceptable specimens: specimens other than vaginal site or specimens from prepubertal patients.
7. A qualitative positive or negative result will be reported for Candida species, Candida glabrata, and Trichomonas vaginalis.
8. Sample is good for 30 days (refrigerated or ambient).
