Negative (reported as positive, equivocal, or negative)

Note: A negative result does not exclude possibility of Lyme disease, since specimen draw may occur prior to development of sufficient antibody levels. In addition, treatment with antibiotics early after onset of rash may prevent development of antibody. All positive and equivocal specimens are sent to Mayo Medical Laboratories for confirmation by IgG and IgM Western blot assay at an additional charge.
