Specimen Requirements

1. Draw blood in 2 sterile, dark green-top (sodium heparin) tubes, and send 10 mL (minimum volume: 2 mL) of sodium heparin whole blood. (Improperly labeled specimens, <2 mL of sodium heparin whole blood, green-top [lithium heparin] tubes are not acceptable.)  Please keep specimen at room temperature.

2. Label tube with patient’s name (first and last), date and time of draw, type of specimen, and phlebotomist’s initials.

3. Maintain sterility and forward promptly.
