Important Note

Also known as urine toxicology.

Confirmatory tests are not automatically done.  If a confirmatory test for a urine specimen with presumptively positive screening test is ordered, call the laboratory at 410-543-7386 and speak with Special Chemistry within 5 days of reporting of test results by laboratory.  Confirmatory testing if ordered will be sent to Mayo Medical Laboratories at an additional charge.

Note:  Confirmatory tests can only be done if sufficient volume of urine is available.

Methodology

Note: TidalHealth Peninsula Regional Laboratory does not do any employment or chain of custody drug screens.  

This test screens for amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, benzoylecgonine (cocaine metabolite), cannabinoids, fentanyl, opiates, oxycodone, methadone, and phencyclidine (PCP). This is a screening test for drug classes. It is used for psychiatric admission, admissions for Detox, and/or outpatient screening. If screening for alcohol, order Alcohol, Ethyl, Urine (ALCOU).

Specimen Requirements

Specimen must arrive within 24 hours of collection.

 

Minimum volume: 1 mL from a random urine collection in a plastic urine container (yellow urine tube preferred, plain red top or other sterile container acceptable.) No preservative.

 

NOTE: 10 mL of urine is desirable in order to have sufficient volume for confirmatory testing if ordered.
