Test Code LAB209 Body Fluid Cell Count (No Diff)

Important Note

This test is not available on abscess or cyst fluids without a pathologist's approval.

This test is not performed on omentum fluids.

For cell counts on bronchial lavage, biliary fluid (bile fluid), and other miscellaneous fluids, a Non-GYN cytology request form needs to be sent.

Specimens received in lab the within 2 hours of collection are preferred.

Specimens received after 2 hours but within 24 hours of collection will be accepted.

We do not perform FCC's on Biliary Fluid (Bile Fluid).  We do perform crystal identification which includes the presence or absence of WBC and RBC but not a count or a diff.  If the floors want a cell count on biliary fluid they need to order a Non-Gyn cytology test and send a paper req with a cell count for cytology, similar to a cyst or abscess specimen.
