Test Code LAB171 Free PSA

Important Note

Specimens for PSA testing should be drawn prior to such prostatic manipulations as digital rectal examination (DRE), prostatic massage, transrectal ultrasound (TRUS), and prostatic biopsy. Transrectal needle biopsy has also been shown to cause transient increases in free PSA and persisting total PSA elevations, thus a six-week waiting period between needle biopsy and PSA sampling has been recommended.
