Specimen Requirements
Submit only 1 of the following specimens:
Plasma
Draw blood in a green-top (lithium heparin) tube. Spin down and send 2 mL of lithium heparin plasma.

Reference Values
CRP for Cardiac Risk - American Heart Association and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Guidelines:
Risk level, hs-CRP (mg/L)
Low Risk Level: <1.0 mg/L
Average Risk Level: 1.0 - 3.0 mg/L
High Risk Level: >3.0 mg/L
Note: 1. This is a high-sensitivity assay.
2. CRP is absent from normal serum, but appears rapidly in patients suffering from inflammatory conditions of either infectious or noninfectious origin. Conditions which can cause elevation of CRP are: acute bacterial infections, acute rheumatic fever, rheumatoid arthritis, pregnancy, use of an intrauterine device or oral contraceptive, some tumors, and various types of tissue destruction such as myocardial infarction.
