Specimen Requirements

1. Do not use speculum for collection.

2. Using only 1 culture transport swab, swab lower vagina, followed by rectum. (Cervical culture is not recommended.) (Improperly labeled specimen is not acceptable.)

3. Return swab to culture transport tube.

4. Label tube with patient’s name (first and last), date and time of collection, type of specimen, and collector’s initials.

Note: 1. Specimen source is required.

2. Collect specimen late in pregnancy (5 weeks or less before delivery).
