Specimen Requirements

Submit only 1 of the following specimens:

 

Plasma
Draw blood in a green-top (lithium heparin) tube. (Grossly hemolyzed specimen is not acceptable.) Spin down and send 2 mL of lithium heparin plasma.
Note: 1. Indicate plasma.

2. Label specimen appropriately (plasma).

 

Serum
Draw blood in a gold-top serum gel tube. (Grossly hemolyzed specimen is not acceptable.) Spin down and send 2 mL of serum.
Note: 1. Indicate serum.

2. Label specimen appropriately (serum).

Reference Values

Adult (≥18 Years): 0.450 – 5.330 μIU/mL (F&M)
0 – 1 Months: 1.500 – 6.500 (F), 0.700 – 9.800 (M)
1 Mo – 9 Years: 1.000 – 5.700 (F), 0.700 – 5.900 (M)
9 – 11 Years: 0.900 – 4.000 (F), 1.000 – 3.700 (M)
11 – 15 Years: 0.700 – 3.400 (F), 0.800 – 3.900 (M)
